Carlos Sainz was the first driver to hit the market for the 2025 season yet it has been over five months and he still does not have a contract secured for next season. This is not for a lack of offers either. He has had offers from three separate teams and yet he still maintains that he is taking his time in deciding.
“And I’m going to be honest and straightforward with the teams. But it’s such an important decision for me also that I’m going to take all the time that I need to take it.” - Carlos Sainz
Carlos' lack of a decision is also causing a bottleneck within the driver market as many teams are waiting to finalize their decisions based on where Carlos goes. The teams with offers to him don't want to potentially miss out on him and the drivers who are second options for these teams can't move forward with their negotiations.
“And if there’s teams that cannot wait or are a bit impatient, I cannot do anything about it.” - Carlos Sainz
Many of the teams that had originally been quick to offer him a contract have since opened their doors to other options because of Carlos' lack of a decision. Williams has been in serious talks with Valtteri Bottas and Alpine have 2 other options they're evaluating with their reserve driver Jack Doohan and their WEC driver Mick Schumacher.
Even though he is a highly valued driver, teams are not going to wait around forever for him. He has had plenty of time to decide and at the rate that he is deciding, it's looking increasingly possible that teams bypass him completely and he is left without a seat for 2025.
