Oscar Piastri's First Win!

After only a year and a half in Formula 1, Oscar Piastri has won his first ever Grand Prix.

He drove a spectacular race and gained the lead right from the start and maintained that lead for the majority of race. Unfortunately, his win will forever be tainted by the poor strategy decisions made by his team.

McLaren opted to call Lando Norris into the pits from 2nd place which effectively undercut Oscar for the lead. They proceeded to leave Oscar out for an extra lap after this which solidified the undercut.

It's understandable if McLaren wanted to secure a win for Lando due to the fact he is in a fight for the championship but Oscar had been leading the race and lost the lead due to no fault of his own.

McLaren's choice in telling Lando to give the position back to Oscar, despite him leading was extremely questionable but Lando's argument against it for over 15 laps was just as bad. He continued to behave like a spoiled child whilst his race engineer begged him to give the place back and think rationally.

Eventually Lando did swap positions with Oscar with 3 laps left in the race, but not after showing off that he was faster & and "graciously" giving the win Oscar has rightfully earned back to him.

If McLaren had actually wanted Oscar to win and maintain the lead, they would have put him on the preferential strategy, especially considering he was leading, but instead they put both drivers in a tough spot and created unnecessary tension within the team and spoiled what should have an exciting moment for Oscar.
