This season, Red Bull have been under more pressure as the competition steadily catches up to them. Their car is not as dominant as it was last season and the reigning World Champion, Max Verstappen, has been expressing his frustrations with the car to no avail. The team has made no progress with their development and instead rely on the "Verstappen Effect" to do well in races to maintain their lead.
Their strategies have been becoming progressively worse as the team tries to keep up with McLaren who have been showing steady improvement this season. Today was the absolute worst performance the team has seen in recent years however.
The team allowed Max to be undercut twice, and made no attempt to rectify it and then tried to rely on Max's skills to make overtakes happen but with a car that is nowhere near the fastest on a track where overtaking is extremely hard; it was a near impossible feat.
"You guys gave me this **** strategy, ok? I'm trying to rescue what's left." - Max on team radio during the race
Max is only able to do so much with the car he has underneath him and when that car is already lacking the pace to fight for a win, he can only rely on the strategy the team gives him. He is not a miracle worker nor can he win simply by being Max Verstappen.
